Su-Lin - Founder

JAI’s founder loves Thai food and culture and Muay Thai.

Su-Lin isn’t your typical gym owner. Prior to setting up JAI, she spent over 10 years working as a journalist. where she swapped make-up tips with Boy George, talked fashion with Alicia Keys, had high tea with David Beckham, supper with Anthony Bourdain, sipped champagne with Mandy Moore and chewed the fat with Ronan Keating.  She picked up Muay Thai after interviewing a Muay Thai fighter for CLEO Magazine and he convinced her to give it a go. The physical transformation was incredible, but it was the feeling of empowerment and inner strength that truly captivated her. So captivated, in fact, that she traded her pen for a pair of gloves. Su-Lin's Muay Thai journey took her to the heart of Thailand, where she trained in camps across Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket. While she has competed both in Thailand and New Zealand, her true love lies in the transformative power of Muay Thai for everyday people. She passionately believes that Muay Thai's benefits – physical fitness, mental clarity, and a surge of confidence – are for everyone, regardless of athletic background or fighting aspirations. She has competed  in Thailand, training in Muay Thai camps in Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Phuket, but she trains mainly for fitness, with an emphasis on grace, humility and technique rather than fighting. Su-Lin's mission is to make Muay Thai enjoyable and accessible. She wants to replace the intimidation factor with the joy of movement and self-discovery. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a complete couch potato, she hopes to have the privilege of introducing Muay Thai to you .
